The right words set the tone of your wedding before a single guest arrives. Below are wording samples for the most common situations in Indian weddings — traditional invites from parents, invites from grandparents, invites from the couple themselves, and short versions for video invitations.
Copy any sample, change the names and details, and paste it into your invitation. In a video invitation keep each line short: one idea per scene reads best on a phone.
The most common format: the hosting parents invite guests to the wedding of their son or daughter. Mention both sets of parents when both families host together.
From the bride's parents
With the blessings of the Almighty
Mrs. & Mr. Rajesh Sharma
request the pleasure of your company
at the wedding of their daughter
Ananya
with
Arjun
son of Mrs. & Mr. Vikram Mehta
on Saturday, 12 December 2026 at 7:00 pm
The Leela Palace, New Delhi
From both families
Mrs. & Mr. Rajesh Sharma and Mrs. & Mr. Vikram Mehta
joyfully invite you to celebrate the wedding of
Ananya & Arjun
Your presence and blessings will make our celebration complete.
From the groom's parents
Mrs. & Mr. Vikram Mehta
cordially invite you and your family
to grace the auspicious occasion of the marriage of their son
Arjun
with
Ananya
(daughter of Mrs. & Mr. Rajesh Sharma)
In many joint families the invitation goes out in the name of the eldest member. Add "and family" so the whole household is included.
Smt. Kamla Devi & Shri Ram Prasad Sharma (grandparents)
invite you with love
to bless their granddaughter
Ananya
and
Arjun
as they begin their life together.
Couples who plan their own wedding often send the invitation themselves — warm, personal and a little less formal.

Traditionally from the parents (or grandparents) who host the wedding. Today many couples invite in their own names "together with our families". Any of these is correct — follow what your family prefers.
Both are used in India. "Mrs. & Mr." is common on wedding cards as a courtesy to the lady of the house; "Smt. & Shri" is the Hindi equivalent.
Send them 6–8 weeks before the wedding, and a save the date 3–6 months ahead if guests need to travel.
